Blanche Berthelier
I see my drawing practice as an attempt to relate to invisible and silent things, to tell a story without words, and share intuitions and inner visions throughout a visible form.
I like to explore an inward world and provide images that we can relate to through personal impressions and subjective interpretation.
I work on the symbolical depiction of existential oppositions, like the struggle between darkness and light, which is also why I love working in black and white.
This idea of an inner journey into the dark and towards the light relates as well as to Dante than C.G.Jung’s depth psychology.
Nature is a major source of inspiration for my work, inflecting shapes and apparitions both in my drawings and sculptures.
I see the importance of Nature in my work originating in the nostalgia and the harrowing feeling of being estranged from Nature. My attempt is to render this desire to connect with the core intelligence of the natural world, closely entwined with our human condition.
With my sculpture work I seek to create dialogues between images and volumes, and set up a physical and immersive experience.
